2021 Conference Program

The AAEE2021 program features keynote lectures, peer to peer learning, posters and interactive workshops.

For those attending virtually, all sessions in the Boardwalk Theatre will be streamed until the afternoon tea break on Days 1 and 3.

Mandurah Coast, Thrombolites and DBCA Tour – 8.45 AM DEPARTURE, be at ManPac by 8.15 am

This tour celebrates the magic of the season of Kambarang as we take you on a wildflower walk that will delight and inspire. You’ll learn about flora from local community experts via the Mandurah Herbarium and community projects that aim to protect the Critically Endangered Western Ringtail Possum. You’ll also hear about how the City of Mandurah is creating citizen science opportunities through a Reserve Management Database and partnering with local organisations such as the Peel Harvey Catchment Council to protect the oldest living inland thrombolite reef in the southern hemisphere.

Mandurah Estuary Cruise – 8.45 AM DEPARTURE, be at ManPac by 8.15 am

Take in the scenery as we show you around our Ramsar-listed Peel-Harvey Estuary, including the Creery Wetlands. This incredible wetland is internationally significant due to the migratory shorebirds that visit each year. On this tour we’ll introduce you to these birds, and share some of the local environmental education initiatives that link to our waterways. You’ll also be immersed in a workshop on nature photography as an engagement tool and hear about environmental education initiatives that link to practical environmental management.

Sustainable Schools in WA, and The Wetlands Centre Cockburn – 8 AM DEPARTURE, be at ManPac by 7.30 am

This tour will take you from Mandurah up to John Curtin College of the Arts in Fremantle. You will learn from several speakers about engaging students and schools in sustainable practices,  and take part in a workshop that presents an overview of sustainability in the W.A school network. From here, you will travel to the Wetlands Centre in Cockburn, and be taken on a journey through the adaptive cycle, with particular reference to the Wetland Centre experiences.
