Marianne Krasny

A leader in teaching environmental and climate education for international audiences.
Marianne E Krasny is a professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Director of the Civic Ecology Lab at Cornell University. She leads efforts to teach environmental and climate education for international audiences, and to facilitate online learning and resource sharing communities for over 10,000 environmental activists and educators globally. Dr Krasny conducts research with members of the Civic Ecology Lab to answer questions about how to scale up the impacts of civic ecology practices and about how online learning can lead to more effective environmental education and stewardship practices and climate actions.

Briony Towers is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Urban Research at RMIT University. Her research interests include child–centred disaster risk reduction (CCDRR), disaster risk reduction education (DRRE), school emergency management, and climate change adaptation in the education sector. Briony’s multi–disciplinary approach to research is grounded in socio–cultural theories of human development and informed by theory and practice in child participation, critical pedagogy, place–based education and community–based disaster risk reduction.

As Southern Brown Bandicoot Outreach Officer at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Charlotte is responsible for designing and implementing community engagement initiatives centred around creating a bandicoot friendly community. This work aims to help build connection to nature in residents of south east Melbourne, and raise awareness about the existence of endangered bandicoots in residential areas and appropriate conservation actions. Charlotte’s work at RBGV sits at the exciting intersection of programming, citizen science and behaviour change for conservation.

Catrina Luz Aniere is CEO – Millennium Kids Inc, a not for profit environmental youth program which operates in Western Australia with partnerships across Australia and Indonesia. She has more than 30 years of international and Australian experience in the areas of program development and education for sustainability with a focus on children and youth directed initiatives. All Catrina’s work uses youth voice and engagement at its core.

Associate Professor Sandra Wooltorton is a Senior Research Fellow with the Nulungu Research Institute, at the University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broome Campus. She leads inter- and trans-disciplinary research on topics including environmental education, social change, climate hope, cultural actions for eco-health, Indigenous-led sustainability and transformative learning.

Anne is a Yimardoowarra marnin: an Indigenous woman from the Mardoowarra, Fitzroy River who is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow with the Nulungu Research Institute in Broome. She has been a research consultant and research fellow for various universities for more than 28 years.

Dr White is a science and environmental education Senior Lecturer at Deakin University. She has worked in classrooms, as a curriculum consultant and manager, and as a teacher educator in several jurisdictions across Canada and Australia. Peta’s passion for initial teacher educator, activist environmental education, and action–orientated methodologies drives her current teaching/research scholarship.

Professor Len Collard is from the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Western Australia. Len has a background in literature and communications and his research interests are in the area of Australian Indigenous Studies, including Nyungar interpretive histories.

Laurie is a professor in the geography department at Université du Québec à Montréal (Québec, Canada), an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Nulungu Research Institute at the University of Notre Dame Australia (Broome Campus) and a Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University. Her research revolves around enhancing the essential role of intercultural relations in the territorial development of northern Québec. Other fields of research she investigates include: contemporary northern and rural mobilities and migrations; indigenous – non-indigenous geographies of everyday life of the North; Indigenous awareness training.

Troy is an environmental activist that is committed to making a change in our society about how we view and take care of our marine environment. He hopes to one day be a carbon-neutral country and know of ways to live symbiotically with our oceans and country that will be sustainable. Troy has been involved in many projects to improve his leadership and knowledge of the environment to be the best person he can be, including: Youth on Leadership, Ocean Heroes, Black Bream Breeding project, Yohfest. Troy is committed to balancing his school and work with making a change through multiple primary schools and high school visits to convey the importance of environmental sustainability and education within Australia for future generations.

Lachlan was born and raised in Bunbury; growing up amongst the unique environment and landscape of the South West inspired him to get involved in the movement for action on climate change by our leaders. He joined School Strike for Climate in February 2019, whilst in Year 12. Since then, he has assisted with the organisation actions in Bunbury, helping to spread the message. He now mainly acts as a supervisor for the young people in his local chapter of School Strike for Climate.
